Amorgos is a unique island with special natural beauty and mysterious charm that will impress you. It is located in the South East part of the Cyclades with an area of 121 square kilometers and is 136 nautical miles from the port of Piraeus. Our island is well known in Greece and abroad mainly for the unique in the world blue color of the crystal waters that have its beautiful and natural beaches. (AperantoGalazio: The film of the French director Luc Besson, shot in Amorgos, is a milestone for the island and its inhabitants.) In 2015, Aegean of Amorgos had the pleasure to host the famous director, Luc Besson. Chora is the traditional town of Amorgos with paved alleys and the most famous beach of Amorgos with the endless blue of Agia Anna.
Amorgos has two ports. The port of Katapola and the port of Aegiali. Katapola is the main harbor and one of the most beautiful natural harbors of the Cyclades, just 5 km from the capital. In Katapola you will find golden beaches, delicious food and nightlife. Aigiali is the second port of the island, located northwards with three other picturesque settlements, Lagada, Potamos and Tholaria.
In the southern part after Chora is the area of Kato Meria, with traditional settlements of Vroutsi, Kamari, Arkesini and Kolofana. There are wonderful beaches such as Mouros, Paradisia, Kato Kabos and Kalotaritissa.

In Katapola you can find the Acropolis of Ancient Minoa on “Mountoulia mountain”, watermanship, the church of Panagia Katapoliani and the remains of the temple of Pythian Apollo.
In Chora you can visit the Venetian castle and the medieval Tower of Gavra, where today is the archaeological museum. Also, the monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa built in a rock 300 meters above sea level in 1088 and is the most important monument of the island. In Chora there is also the first Gymnasium that was founded in Greece after the revolution in 1821.
Furthermore in Arkesini you can find the tower of holy trinity.
If you visit Amorgos you should definitely not miss some events that will make you familiar with the island’s traditions. There are many festivals on the island such as the celebration Of Agioi Anargyroi on 1 July at Tholaria, Agia Paraskevi on 25 and 26 July in Kolofana, which is the most famous of all, Panagia of Epaoxoriani on 15 August in Lagada and Agios Ioannis on 29 August in Vroutsi. Also in Chora on the 6th of August the feast of Christ and the feast of the “pastelli” (traditional sweet of Amorgos-Brittel). Ultimately, in July you can enjoy famous feast of “rakomelo” (traditional drink of Amorgos). All the above local dishes and drinks are offered free from the residents.
The traditional settlement
Katapola is divided into three traditional settlements: Katapola, Rachidi and Xilokeratidi. Aegean of Amorgos is located in the area of Katapola just 150 meters from the port and from the entertainment and dining places of the settlement. So you do not have to drive by car.
Also, our accommodation is very close to three beaches of Katapola. Both are accessible on foot as they are 100 meters away. The third beach called Maltezi is on the opposite side of Katapola and it is accessible by small boats that leave the center of the harbor which is 100 meters away from Aegean Of Amorgos. The journey takes about 8 minutes.
The bus station that connects the whole island of Amorgos and the municipal parking (it is free of charge) that you can park your car or bike, is also 100 meters away from Aegean Of Amorgos. Finally, Chora, which is the capital of the island, is ten minutes away from our accommodation. The hospital of Amorgos is also located there.
